Landen goes to the ENT

Today I took Landen to see the ENT to check out his tonsils. I have to admit I was nervous about Landen possibly getting his tonsils out. However, all I keep hearing is how easy it is to get them out when they are young.

We met with Dr. Grimmer who is the ENT at PCMC that placed Tanner's tubes. He took a look at Landen tonsils and said that they were pretty big. I told him that Landen snored and was tired all the time so I didn't feel like he was getting good sleep, but I didn't think he had sleep apnea. I didn't want this to be the only reason for getting his tonsils out if it wasn't absolute necessary. Dr. Grimmer asked about his weight gain for the previous year. When I told him he had only gained a pound, he was pretty concerned. He said that when kids are tired and have big tonsils it can make them lose their appetite and food doesn't taste as good. He also asked about Landen's behavior. We all know about Landen's outbursts and how he is my most difficult child behavior wise. He said kids are prone to tantrums later in the day if they are tired and aren't getting good sleep at night. Dr. Grimmer said that usually behavior improves after tonsils are removed.

With all this information, Mike and I felt it would be in Landen's best interest to get his tonsils out. We have already met our deductible so I wanted to see if we could get his tonsils out before the end of the year. They were able to schedule Landen for surgery on December 16th at the new Primary Children's extension in the Riverton Hospital. Recovery time is roughly 2 weeks so I am a little nervous about how he will be feeling for Christmas, but this way he won't miss too much school.
